Don't worry about a thing...

Lindsay & I are convinced that nothing really prepares you for parenthood. As logical adults, you think you get it, but you don't. Parenthood is an experience which pales in comparison to any other thing one has accomplished. As over achieving type A personalities, joy, or the concept of joy often alludes us. We are often so focused on the next thing, that the simple beauties of the moment are easy to miss.

Grandma Gemma will be leaving for India in a few weeks and we already miss her. It has been an honor and a real joy to watch her with Dylan & Neisha. They love her, no one, not even Mommy gets the same kind of reaction, pure unrehearsed joy and admiration. I often joke with Gemma, what will our babies do when they are left with the amateurs?

It is hard to see joy in those twin melt down moments. Joyful sounds turn to chaos and Mowgli heads for cover. You look into the faces of your usually good natured children and see anger and hatred, some kind of alien abduction. Last night Neisha had one of those kind of meltdowns, even Dylan looked puzzled. Nothing we did seemed to work. Bob Marley saved the day, " don't worry about a thing... every little thing will be alright". She stopped dead in her tracks, from 120 RPMs to zero in a moment. Lindsay beams, at least she has good taste in music!

  1. That's awesome that she likes that song. It's funny what will distract them from their cry. I hear you when you say "Parenthood pales in comparison to any other thing one has accomplished." I forget the goals I once had or the things I have accomplished because nothing seems as importante to me then parenting these days.
